MEET THE TEAM

Paul was born and raised in the Omaha area. While growing up, he frequently hunted upland birds and turkeys with his father. He is a licensed electrician, avid fisherman, and overall enjoys just about anything outdoors. The most exciting part of upland hunting for him is good dog work.  He enjoys the company of hunters as well. According to Paul, “How can you not love a new group of people to tell your same old BS stories to all season long?”

Jason has been hunting as long as he can remember. He was plinking anything that flew with his Red Rider at 4 years old. Jason’s father and all his friends would leave to go on a grouse hunt. Jason remembers standing in the driveway crying as they drove off. Back then it was legal to road hunt and his job was to hold the dogs in the back of the truck and when stopped and there was a sporting kill he got to let the dogs go.

He spent most of his youth trapping coons and hunting pheasants; it was not until high school that he started hunting waterfowl and that soon became his passion. After returning back to Nebraska from his time served in the Army, all he wanted to do was hunt – mostly waterfowl. Being outside and watching game work to a decoy or watching a dog track a bird is about the most peaceful thing he knows.

While guiding at 777 Hunts, Jason’s favorite part is meeting the different people. He tells his wife that guiding for 777 Hunts is just taking a walk with new friends. He gets to meet some great folks and experience what he loves with them.

Anything outdoors is engaging to Jason. He likes the mornings when the world comes alive and seeing all that God created, wake up. Hunting, camping, boating, and outdoor cooking are a few of his favorites.

Jason has over 40 years of experience hunting and shooting. This includes over 10 years of guiding waterfowl, and he’s been guiding upland since 2012.

As an occupation, Jason is a Feed Segment Operations Manager for Cargill. When we asked Jason what his favorite hunting dog breed is, his response was, “Lab, is there another breed? They are the best with kids and will be yours till their end. I’m not sure what a lab cannot do… they are versatile!”

Greg Preston started hunting when he was 12 with his dad and his dad’s friends. He saw more quail shot
than a person can imagine before he ever shot any himself.

While guiding at 777 Hunts, he loves meeting people from all over the whole country and teaching them new things as well as learning from them.

Aside from hunting and guiding, Greg also loves to ice fish and guide ice fishing in the winter. He is also a competitive shooter throughout each shooting season and he travels as much as he can to follow his shooting passion.

Greg’s been hunting for over 35 years and he’s been guiding since 2006, when he got his first German Shorthair Pointers.

When he’s not hunting or fishing, he is working in the Commercial Flooring and Buildings industry. He also teaches and instructs shooting lessons for new and seasoned shooters and he loves teaching them the art of all of the clay target games.

When it comes to the hunting companions, Greg used to run Brittany Spaniels until 2006 and then he got into the German Shorthair Pointer breed.

Greg Middleton started hunting as a young boy long before he was old enough to carry a gun, he can still remember how excited he was when his dad and uncle took he and his cousin hunting. He couldn’t wait for those days. It’s hard for him to believe that it’s been almost 50 years since those early childhood experiences.

Greg believes the best part of being involved with 777 Hunts are the people (and dogs) he gets to meet. It’s been a great experience for him.

He also enjoys taking his wife out to experience hunting, fishing and shooting. They both like to travel and enjoy photographing the places they go and experiences they have. They enjoy hunting in other countries. That’s been a fantastic experience.

Greg is retiring this year from a long career and can’t wait to see what the future holds. He really enjoys hunting behind a nice dog- it makes bird hunting much more rewarding and enjoyable. He especially likes hunting behind a nice Labrador Retriever and has owned several.

Tom was introduced to upland hunting by his father around age 8 or 9. He trudged along with his dad and his friend Greg, for what seemed like hours and miles (in actuality the miles were in quarters). He eventually was able to carry a BB gun and vividly remembers taking his hunters education course. They hunted Western Iowa and Eastern Nebraska. From ages 12 through 15 they traveled more and hunted Central and Southeastern Nebraska. They moved to Southwestern Montana (Bitterroot Valley) and put the brakes on upland hunting until later in his early 20s.
Guiding upland hunts at 777 Hunts has presented Tom with a wide array of hunters from first time (young & older) to seasoned veterans. He enjoys the stories told while in the field and the laughter shared during great and not so great moments. He has been fortunate to accompany some outstanding folks on their hunts!

When it comes to other outdoor activities, Tom was introduced to waterfowl hunting in his early 30s and was “all in” for many years. He was given a lot of grief by friends whenever he was planning to squeeze in a pheasant hunt and chastised for chasing “ditch pigeons.” A few years later he was introduced to turkey hunting and has some of his greatest memories associated with those hunts. Shooting Sports has become another passion of Tom’s, much to his family’s dismay. He drags his wife and kids to various shoots around the region and embarrasses them when he walks up to a shooter who may be struggling and lends them a suggestion or two. Dog trials have also taken up the past couple of years of Tom’s life. He says he is in no way a staunch competitor, but he thoroughly enjoys the camaraderie and watching dogs work.

MORE ABOUT TOM

Tom has been guiding/mentoring hunts since 2008. Early on, while instructing hunter’s education, he jumped at the chance to become a mentor and engaging young people to the opportunities the great state of Nebraska has to offer. Waterfowl and turkey hunting were his immediate choice for mentoring early on. Eventually drifted back into upland hunting and started guiding upland hunts more often in recent years.

Currently, Tom works for a global insurance broker as an Infrared Thermographer and Safety Consultant for Ag and Commercial clients. He covers a nine-state territory and has been afforded ample windshield time to take in some amazing scenery while traveling! Prior to
working in the insurance field, he was working in the field of the fabrication of structural steel. Tom was part of the early 2000s Omaha construction boom and skyline expansion around the region.

When asked what is your favorite hunting dog breed and why? Tom’s reply was nothing short of comical. “Boy, the loaded question of favorite hunting breed,” he said, “Similar to ‘Who is your favorite child?’ (though we all have one, no one dare utter a name). I have been lucky to hunt over a fair selection of working breeds over my lifetime, some great and some not so great. In my early years, we had a pointer and spaniel. Over the decades I have had German Shorthairs, a Llewellyn, and recently a Lab. Each has/had their own qualities and I would not diminish any of their skill sets. Since I currently run all three types of dogs, I will abstain from answering, but will happily take anyone out so they can provide their answer after a hunt or 20.”

Terry’s mom was the first person who took him hunting when he was 8 or 9 years old but he was more actively involved when his neighbor took him under his wing. His neighbor took him out quite a bit and that’s where his lifelong passion began.

At 777 Hunts, he’s an upland guide as well as a waterfowl guide. When he’s guiding at 777 Hunts, he loves meeting new people and hearing where they are from and listening to them tell their stories. He never feels like he’s working when he’s at 777 Hunts.
With over 25 years of hunting and shooting experience, Terry is also on Browning Pro Staff and Mossy Oak Pro Staff and tries to attend every youth event he can to attend to help get the next generation involved more in shooting and hunting.

When it comes to other outdoor activities, Terry is an avid fan of bow hunting, he’s an experienced waterfowl hunter, upland dog competitor and has even finished second in the world with his yellow lab, Bub. He also loves spending time with his sons and helping them develop their outdoor passions as well.
When it comes to his “day job” and he’s not pursuing his passions, Terry is building houses and loving it. He looks forward to being your guide!

Trent is very passionate about the role he plays at 777 Hunts. He loves the challenges that come along each day and the chance to meet new people. Trent has many years of experience in guiding upland birds and waterfowl hunts. Doing so has provided him with the expertise needed to lead successful outings and field experiences. Trent enjoys planning and hosting large events from dog competitions from the BDC Worlds to NSCA registered sporting clay shoots and everything in between.

Trent’s passion for hunting and the great outdoors came from hunting as a young child. Trent would accompany his father, Andy Leichleiter, every hunting season from the time he could walk. He credits his passion and desire to achieve success in both hunting and life to his dad. As he grew older, his hunting passion developed into an enthusiasm for retrievers and eventually led him to seek a full-time job managing a hunting preserve and training dogs professionally.
At 777 Hunts Trent has a hand in everything from guiding hunters in the field to giving shooting instruction. His multitude of skills gained over a lifetime of hunting and training are put to good use.

As a family Trent, his wife Katie, and their children, Jager, Kruze and Bryx enjoy meeting new customers as well as assisting clients and being part of the experience at 777 Hunts.
